An outboard motor stand holds your engine upright and stable when it's off the boat — for winter storage, servicing, or simply moving it between a vehicle and a workbench.

Why it matters

Laying an outboard on the ground risks damaging the propeller, the lower unit's cooling intakes, and can let oil pool in the wrong part of a 4-stroke engine. A stand keeps the engine in its correct orientation and off the floor.

Types available

Fixed floor stands suit engines you store in the same spot each winter. Wheeled/trolley-style stands (see our trolley guide) add portability if you need to move the engine around a workshop or garage.

Sizing by engine weight

Match the stand's rated capacity to your engine's dry weight with some margin — a stand rated just at the limit isn't a safe long-term choice, especially if the engine will sit on it for months over winter.
